The roadbook

Central Serengeti is the sound first route because resident wildlife matters more than chasing a moving headline. Naabi Hill handles the formal park entry, Moru’s granite outcrops break the southern plains, and Seronera’s river woodland supports a wide mix of species across seasons.

Retima and the eastern kopjes are options chosen by the driver-guide according to track condition and sightings, not mandatory pins. Book one central camp for multiple nights, keep distances short and let the route change without leaving authorized tracks or pressuring wildlife.

Eastern Kopjes

Rock outcrops and short-grass country add a contrasting eastern loop when tracks allow.

What it is

An inselberg or monadnock ( mə-NAD-nok) is an isolated rock hill, knob, ridge, or small mountain that rises abruptly from a gently sloping or virtually level surrounding plain. If the inselberg is dome-shaped and formed from granite or gneiss, it can also be called a bornhardt, though not all bornhardts are inselbergs.
